Artist’s Bio
Steve Schmidt is an award-winning photographer living in western Massachusetts His work has won prizes in Sierra Magazine and Earth Magazine contests, along with being exhibited in the Merrill Lynch Corporate Gallery; the Griffin Museum of Photography; the Art and Architecture Gallery in Ottawa, Canada; the Vermont Center for Photography; the Photographic Resource Center; the Northampton, MA, Biennial; the Provincetown Art Association Museum; the Darkroom Gallery, Essex Junction, VT; the University of Massachusetts/Amherst President’s Office; the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History; and the Amherst, MA, Jones Library Burnett Gallery, among other venues.
Steve studied with landscape and nature photographers Larry Ulrich, Jeff Gnass, Harold Feinstein, Karin Rosenthal, and Rose Eichenbaum, among other nationally-known photographers.
Often impressionistic, his art often ventures into the abstract. Early work included photojournalism, while later he branched into dance and movement theatre photography and the human form in nature. Most recently much of his work explores abstractions in nature, especially in water reflections.
